About Martin
My story began not in boardrooms or business schools, but rather amidst the hands on challenges of being an electrician. This career did not fulfill me as I had hoped, leading me to explore the world of sales. I quickly realised that my passion lay in making strategic sales and managing business operations, rather than working with wires and circuits.
The pivot was transformative. My tenure at Austral Bricks was a period of profound learning and growth, where I honed my understanding of sales and management. I ventured out to start my own business, and that’s how MD Brick was born. My approach to business is grounded in real-world experiences rather than formal education—I joke that I have the most expensive business degree around! What makes me thrive as a director is my passion for identifying market gaps and crafting strategies to address them, though I’ve learned that execution is always the toughest part.
At heart, I’m a salesperson. I relish in assisting customers achieve their goals and solve problems, which is what I believe selling is all about. I’ve always believed in the power of relationships and good communication. I strive to consider all perspectives, especially when solving problems, maintaining clear and open communication, and occasionally offering goodwill, which has largely contributed to my success. Despite the challenges and setbacks, my background in sports has taught me the importance of resilience and team culture, which I’ve carried over to my business practices. I believe in empowering my team and nurturing their skills, as their growth directly contributes to the company’s success.
